The Bible and Quran are religious Holy books and possess similarities as the Holy Scriptures of Christianity and Islam, respectively.
They consist of Poetry, teachings, narratives, and rebuking. Most of the narratives in both books contain the same basic figures and events.
They both teach of an omniscient God who is in command of human beings to follow the morality set out for them and the world’s creation by a single almighty.
Muslims believe that God dictates every word in the Quran while the Christians believe that the Bible is God’s spoken word.
Muslims also believe that God protects the Quran from all the harms that can be brought as a result of any possible human mistakes. To the Muslims, the Quran is perfect in every way as God is perfect.
While Muslims believe the Quran applies to every person regardless of context, Christians believe that the Bible is entirely true, but differently. Through Jesus, the Bible records of God’s revelation to the Jews.
The Bible is written by a human being in the guidance of God’s Divine Inspiration. There are two 2 main similar themes in the Quran and the Bible.
These are the Quran’s perspective about Allah and Jesus and are the Bible’s perspective about God and Jesus
Both Books Acknowledge God’s Presence
Both books talk about one God, the creator of heaven and earth as well as the creator of all human beings. In both Books, God has put his will in writing.
They both affirm that, on judgment day, God will call every individual will be accountable at the end of times.
The Quran’s Perspective of God
Foremost, according to the Quran, Allah is the creator of every single individual as well as the entire universe. However, the Quran states that God is transcendental.
This is to means that God is distinct from His creation. The book of Sura 55, 1-78; 6,100-101 affirms that there is no connection between creator and creature (Al-Quran, 2001).
Even though Allah is the creature of the universe and all the creatures in it, there is no relationship between Allah and the Creature. Secondly, although the Quran affirms that there is God, it emphasizes that God has no children.
The Quran does not acknowledge the worship of Jesus as God.
The Islamic Holy Book is categorical about the Trinity. It states that the trinity is Polytheism.
To believe in more than one God is the evilest sin among the Islamic religion. Since there is only one God, the sin of Polytheism can never be forgiven.
Allah means ‘the God’ or ‘the goddess’. Lastly, according to the Quran, Jesus Christ is not the son of God. Instead, it states that Allah is a merciful and omnipotent God.
The Quran also accuses Christians of worshiping three gods. These gods include God Jesus and Mary. Mohamed’s perception of the trinity was that it comprised of God Jesus and Mary.
This is how the Trinity was described to Mohammed by the Christians of his lifetimes.
The Bible’s Perception of God
According to the Bible, God created man in His image and also made him His counterpart. As God’s counterpart, Man was given the responsibility to take care of the Garden of Eden.
At creation, God revealed His character. The bible considers Jesus as the bridge between God and man.
The International standard version of the Bible in the book of 1Timothy 2:5, it states that “There is one God. There is also one mediator between God and human beings—a human, the Messiah Jesus” (Bible, 2000).
Therefore, Jesus was sent to man by God to guide and forgive him from his transgression. The Bible considers Jesus and God’s only son who came to earth as a human being.
The Bible affirms that Jesus is Himself, God. Holy Spirit, the Son, and The Father are single, Triune God.
The King James Version of the bible in the book of John 1: 1-2 states that “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God” (Berlin et al 2004).
God is also the father of his children as well as the father of Jesus Christ. Mary was a mere human being. She does not belong to the Holy Trinity.
Both Books Acknowledge Jesus’ Presence on Earth.
Both the Quran and the Bible talk about Jesus. They confirm that he was sent to the Israelites. The Bible, as well as the Quran, refers to Jesus as ‘Christ’. In both books, it is affirmed that Jesus was born from the Virgin Mary.
Jesus came to the world to call Israelites, who had lost their faith, to come back to their faith. These Books affirm that Jesus ascended to heaven and will come again and will come to earth again and take believers with him.
What the Quran Says About Jesus.
According to the Quran, Jesus was created by Allah through the word (“Be!”). Jesus was moved in God’s might into Mary’s womb. However, the Quran is still categorical about the Holiness of Jesus and argues that Jesus was a mere mortal (3, 59; 5, 75; 5,116-117).
Secondly, the Quran regards Jesus as one of the most outstanding prophets in spiritual history.
The Quran acknowledges the Prophet Muhammad as the last prophet. Muhammad is considered to be the seal of the prophets.
Even though Jesus was created through Allah’s own words and He was Allah’s Prophet, He did not die on the cross, nor ever wanted to die on the cross, nor ever was born to die on the cross.
The Muslim’s Holy Scripture verses 4:156-159 state ‘We killed Christ Jesus The son of Mary, The Messenger of Allah.’
But they killed him not, nor crucified him, but so it was made to appear to them, and those who differ therein are full of doubts, with no (certain) knowledge, but only conjunction to follow, for of a surety they killed him not”.
The Quran also argues that Jesus was not crucified and did not resurrect. It says that the crucifixion of Jesus would be a defeat since he would not have to fulfill His promise of delivering mankind from sin as well as bringing redemption to man.
The Quran does not state exactly what happened to Jesus at the end
What the Bible Says About Jesus.
To begin with, the Bible argues that Jesus was born out of a Holy Birth. Through the Virgin Mary, Jesus was created through the Holy Spirit within her. Although Jesus came to earth as a real human He was God and a human being at the same time.
According to the book of John 3: 16 God had a great love for His people, He gave his only Son so that whoever beloved in Him was to be saved from their sins.
The Bible defines Jesus as God. Secondly, the bible affirms that Jesus was sent to the world sent to the world as the foretold redeemer in the Old Testament. He is also considered to be the redeemer of the lost souls.
Being the Son of God, Jesus is the highest prophet who announced the coming of a counselor- the Holy Spirit. On the other hand, Muhammad is not mentioned in the bible and does not fulfill any requirements of God’s prophet.
The Bible affirms this when it states that “To him all the prophets’ bear witness that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name.” Since Muhammad does not fulfill this requirement, he is not considered a prophet.
Wrapping it Up
Stories in the books have similarities since most facts mentioned in both books are similar. They believe in a supreme being, they have creation stories hereby God created Adam and Eve first.
And it is at this place that both man and woman sinned against God and God asked them out of the Garden. The meaning of this is what differs from the Muslims and Christian, not that they come from a different origin.
Religion is based on belief and not facts because the facts always remain somehow the same for both religions.
The Bible and Quran seem to have similarities when it comes to the relationship between God the creation, eternal death, the Last Judgment, and eternal life.
Characters such as Noah, Moses, Jonah, David, and Adam who are in the Old Testament of the Bible also appear in the Muslim Holy Book, The Quran. The Holy Spirit and Jesus Christ are also mentioned in both books.
Whereas in the Quran Jesus is referred to as the ‘word of God’, He is referred to as the “Messiah” as well as the “the spirit of God”.
Both books extensively acknowledge the presence of God as the Supreme Being as well as the creator of heaven and earth.
Emphases on these similarities reflect on the superficial understanding of both religions. Both books have also acknowledged Jesus as a prophet.
